Merry Christmas
Christmas has come and gone for another year. When I was a kid still at home, as soon as we had opened all our presents my dad would always say "well kids, what do you want next year?" I miss my parents especially at Christmas time but they are now spending Christmas with Jesus, Dad since 2001 and Mom since 2003. I know they are watching over us.
This year for Christmas Moyd and I together purchased a Grandfather clock and a Home Theatre system. I also received a new watch, a fleece jacket and some Swisa Beauty products, a scrapbook and accessories to go with it, some Prada Perfume...it smells wonderful! and also 2 wall hanging Lizard DVD Holders. Thank you all for the nice gifts.
Moyd received some new clothes, Crab Crackers and small forks, Dremel workstand and dremel tools. Thank you for the nice gifts.
Marissa and kids, Jason and family hopefully will arrive tomorrow to visit. Josh and Cassie will be here on Sunday. We have gifts for you all. I haven't heard yet from my Cassie...I hope she had a Merry Christmas and that she is feeling better!
WE LOVE AND MISS YOU ALL. WISHING YOU A MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Cassie and Christmas
Yesterday I picked Cassie up at the airport. It was so good to see her again! On our way home we stopped in Layton and ate at Chili's, then off to Target as she needed to do some Christmas shopping. When we arrived home, we waited for Moyd to get home from work then we let her open her gifts from us. And I forgot to take pictures, shame on me! She received some $$$, socks, gift card to Starbucks, and the best gift of all was her new LEXUS, yes a LEXUS! (matchbox size) She wanted a BMW but it was $75,000. So anyways, she had to settle with the second choice. Today it will be off to Montpelier to visit with her sis Marissa and family, then Marissa will take her back to the airport on Saturday. Such a short visit, but its always nice to see her. We wish Cass a very Merry Christmas and a safe trip home! We Love you ;)
The Reason for the Season
Jesus is Better than Santa
Santa lives at the North Pole.
JESUS is everywhere.
Santa rides in a sleigh,
JESUS rides on the wind and walks on the water.
Santa comes but once a year,
JESUS is an ever present help.
Santa fills your stockings with goodies,
JESUS supplies all your needs.
Santa comes down your chimney uninvited,
JESUS stands at your door and knocks.. and then enters your heart.
You have to stand in line to see Santa,
JESUS is as close as the mention of His name.
Santa lets you sit on his lap,
JESUS lets you rest in His arms.
Santa doesn't know your name, all he can say is "Hi little boy or girl, What's your name?"
JESUS knew our name before we did. Not only does He know our name, He knows our address too. He knows our history and future and He even knows how many hairs are on our heads.
Santa has a belly like a bowl full of jelly,
JESUS has a heart full of love.
All Santa can offer is HO HO HO,
JESUS offers health, help and hope.
Santa says "You better not cry"
JESUS says "Cast all your cares on me for I care for you.
Santa's little helpers make toys,
JESUS makes new life, mends wounded hearts, repairs broken homes and builds mansions.
Santa may make you chuckle but
JESUS gives you joy that is your strength.
While Santa puts gifts under your tree,
JESUS became our gift and died on the tree.
It's obvious there is really no comparison.
We need to remember WHO Christmas is all about.
We need to put Christ back in Christmas.
Jesus is still the reason for the season.

Happy Birthday Cassandra
Today marks the 23rd milestone for Cassie Lin, my youngest. She lives in Arizona so we don't get to see her very often. 23 years ago today the road from Smithfield to Logan was closed due to a snowstorm, that rarely ever happened. I wasn't sure if we were going to make it to the hospital or not, but we did. Happy Birthday kid! We hope you have a great day :) We Love and Miss you.

My Favorite Fruit Cake Recipe
Ingredients:1 cup water, 1 cup sugar, 4 large eggs, 2 cups dried fruit, 1 tsp. baking soda, 1 tsp. salt, 1 cup brown sugar, lemon juice, nuts, bottle of whiskey.
Procedure:Sample the whiskey to check for quality. Take a large bowl. Check the whiskey again. To be sure it is the highest quality, pour one level cup and drink. Repeat.
Turn on the electric mixer, beat one cup of butter in a large fluffy bowl. Add one teaspoon of sugar and beat again. Make sure the whiskey is still okay. Cry another tup.
Turn off the mixer. Break two leggs and add to the bowl and chuck in the cup of dried fruit. Mix on the turner. If the fried druit gets stuck in the beaterers pry it loose with a drewscriver. Sample the whiskey to check for tonsisticity.
Sift two cups of salt. Or something. Who cares? Check the whiskey.
Now sift the lemon juice and strain your nuts. Add one table. Spoon. Of sugar or something. Whatever you can find. Grease the oven. Turn the cake tin to 350 degrees. Don't forget to beat off the turner. Throw the bowl out of the window, check the whiskey again and go to bed.

How Santa's Sleigh Works
Rustic on the outside and state-of-the-art on the inside, Santa's sleigh would have to be a marvel in engineering. These are the main parts of the sleigh that would be needed to get Santa across the world in one night.
The front of the sleigh's dashboard would be dominated by Santa's own GPS navigator -- the elves would map out millions of destinations before Christmas Eve, just to make sure Santa doesn't miss anyone. The device would also have a built-in Naughty-or-Nice sensor that keeps Santa updated on children's activities. This is important, as even the most minor of naughty deeds committed within the last few hours of Dec. 24 can determine whether or not a child receives a shiny lump of coal.
A speedometer on the far left of the dashboard would allow Santa to monitor his flying speeds. On the far right would be a radio communicator -- Mrs. Claus sends broadcasts, and the elves update Santa with weather reports and toy inventory.
For in-flight entertainment, we'd like to the think that the elves would have installed an iPod dock -- perhaps even a red-and-green iPod, which would come with enough memory to play Christmas songs for the entire year through. There would also be a hot cocoa dispenser in the middle of the console, and fuel for the reindeer (in the form of carrots) in a compartment located on the left side of the sleigh.
Ever wonder how Santa fits all of those presents into one bag? Think of a transdimensional present compartment in the form of a traditional gift sack, which would act as a portal between the sleigh and the North Pole. However, we'd also like to think that Santa may have harnessed the power of nanotechnology and found a way to miniaturize millions of presents into one large bag. But this information remains unconfirmed.
What is antimatter? Is it some kind of magical substance Santa uses to power his sleigh?
Antimatter is the opposite of regular matter -- the mirror image of normal particles that make up everything we can see or touch. The big draw to antimatter is the amount of energy it helps create. When antimatter and matter come into contact, they annihilate each other -- breaking apart into tons of smaller particles -- and 100 percent of their masses convert into energy.
Although antimatter propulsion rockets are mainly used in science-fiction shows to allow spaceships to travel at warp speed, the possibility of designing one is very real -- NASA is currently developing one that would get us to Mars within a matter of weeks. [source: NASA]
Santa's would have to be way ahead of the game, however, and we'd like to imagine that he has his own custom Stardust Antimatter Rocket. It would be small enough to install in the back of his sleigh and fast enough to deliver every present to all good children across the globe. Of course, if the rocket ever malfunctions, the reindeer would be there to back Santa up.

I'm Hungry!!!
Well yesterday (sunday) all I could eat was food for a soft diet. Moyd cooked himself a hamburger and oh, that smelled so good but I couldn't eat it. I tried so hard to at least have some popcorn...hey that gets soft when you suck on it...but I couldn't even have that!!! So now today all I get to eat (or drink) is food for a liquid diet...I am going to starve to death! When commercials come on TV that show food I have to change the channel or leave the room, this really sucks, but at least I can eat jello ;) Tonight we are headed to the City of Salt 'cause I really don't want to leave here at 3 or 4 in the mornin' to be @ the hospital by 0600. Ya'll take care while I'm gone...see you on the weekend.

Park City/SLC
Wednesday, while Cassie was here we drove to Park City and went shopping. Yes, we bought clothes, you just can't leave Park City without buying something from the Outlet Mall! It was a fun day, cold but fun!!! Then on Thursday Moyd, Cassie and I drove to SLC as I had a Dr. appointment. After, we ate at The Cheesecake Factory, Moyd had a DOUBLE BBQ HAMBURGER AND MAN WAS THAT THING HUGE. I don't know where he put it all. Cassie and I settled for something smaller...Orange Chicken, Hawaiian Pizza and Salad. Off for more shopping at the Fashion Place Mall. Then sad to say, we took Cassie to the Airport so she could fly back home to Phoenix. Like my dad used to say "It's lonely here without you" We hope she can come back to visit again real soon!

Happy Birthday Mom
Are there birthdays in Heaven? Does the angel blow his horn? Announcing to everyone that this is the day you were born? Can the stars be your balloons and angel food your cake? Presents wrapped in moonbeams all the angels helped to make. Birthdays meant so much to you, they were always a big deal. Birthday presents, lots of friends and perhaps a special meal. So I'll whisper a little prayer today asking everyone up above, to sing you a Happy Birthday song, And give you all my love.~ Author unknown~

Shopping/Surprise
Well, Yesterday Moyd and I drove to Ogden to pick up some wood for his Taxidermy. We stopped at RC Willey and bought our Christmas...a Surround Sound system for our upstairs TV and we also bought a Grandfather Clock...Merry Christmas to US. The clock will be delivered the last week of November. Then it was on to LOWES for the wood, well usually Moyd likes to HURRY and get what he needs...well he just took his stinkin' time and I am like 'lets hurry up, I am hungry.' Then on to SPORTSMANS WAREHOUSE where he bought me a new pair of slippers (Thank You as I will need some for the hospital visit). Then he did finally buy me a sandwich as I was starving to death! He told me not to eat too much as we were meeting Amber at 4pm at the Village Inn (I thought that was odd because he doesn't like Village Inn). On to finding TOYS-R-US which we found out no longer exists in Ogden, on to SHOP-KO for some more CHRISTMAS shopping. Then we had about a 45 minute wait, so we parked in the RC Willey parking lot, I was trying to have a little nap and he kept talking, so forget the nap. Then all of a sudden he said "well are you ready to go eat" I said "this isn't village inn". We got out and here comes ALL my CHILDREN walking towards me. They had secretly planned having a Birthday Dinner at the Olive Garden in honor of my '50th' b-day. I was really SURPRISED!!!!! And little CASSIE was there too...she told me she was flying up on Monday, I was so happy to see all of my kids together. It has been 5 years, wish it could happen more often. Then things started to add up. 1. Marick told me he was coming to see me on my birthday, then his mom took the phone from him. Now I know why. 2. Marissa never let me talk to the kids on the phone, now I know why. 3. Marissa called and asked to talk to Moyd, now I know why. 4. Cassie told me she would be flying up on Monday morning and then coming to visit me on Tuesday afternoon, but she showed up on Saturday with her friend Kristin. Now I know why. 5. Moyd and I were going to shop in Ogden the weekend before, he told me we would wait until this weekend. Now I know why. Thanks to all who made this a GREAT DAY!!! Jason, Julie, Marissa, Matt, Cassie, Kristin, Moyd, Amber, Tom, Makinzy, Lorenzo, Marick, Claire and Delia. I LOVE YOU ALL
(wish i was that good at keeping a secret) Will post pictures as soon as the kids send me some!!!

Dirt Roads by Paul Harvey
What's mainly wrong with society today is that too many Dirt Roads have been paved. There's a problem in America today, crime, drugs, education, divorce, delinquency, that would be remedied if we just had more Dirt Roads, because Dirt Roads give character.
People that live at the end of Dirt Roads learn early on that life is a bumpy ride. That it can jar you right down to your teeth sometimes, but it's worth it, if at the end is home... a loving spouse, happy kids and a dog. We wouldn't have near the trouble with our educational system if our kids got their exercise walking a Dirt Road with other kids, from whom they learn how to get along.
There was less crime in our streets before they were paved. Criminals didn't walk two dusty miles to rob or rape, if they knew they'd be welcomed by 5 barking dogs and a double barrel shotgun. And there were no drive by shootings.
Our values were better when our roads were worse! People did not worship their cars more than their kids, and motorists were more courteous, they didn't tailgate by riding the bumper or the guy in front would choke you with dust and bust your windshield with rocks.
Dirt Roads taught patience.
Dirt Roads were environmentally friendly, you didn't hop in your car for a quart of milk you walked to the barn for your milk. For your mail, you walked to the mail box. What if it rained and the Dirt Road got washed out?
That was the best part, then you stayed home and had some family time, roasted marshmallows and popped popcorn and pony rides on Daddy's shoulders... and you learned how to make prettier quilts than anybody.
At the end of Dirt Roads, you soon learned that bad words tasted like soap.
Most paved roads lead to trouble, Dirt Roads more likely lead to a fishing creek or a swimming hole. At the end of a Dirt Road, the only time we even locked our car was in August, because if we didn't some neighbor would fill it with too much zucchini. At the end of a Dirt Road, there was always extra springtime income, from when city dudes would get stuck, you'd have to hitch up a team and pull them out. Usually you got a dollar... always you got a new friend... at the end of a Dirt Road.

Happy Day
Yesterday I found out that CASSIE is coming to visit next week, I am SO excited...except I have to work the week that she is here. Haven't seen the kid in over a year. I am glad she is able to get away for a few days anyway. It will be so good to see her ;)
Lovin' this fruit!
This time of year is POMEGRANATE SEASON...I just love this fruit.
If you have no patience for seeds, then this is not the fruit for you. Every pomegranate is composed of exactly 840 seeds, each surrounded by a sac of sweet-tart juice contained by a thin skin. The seeds are compacted around the core in a layer resembling honeycomb. The layers of seeds are separated by paper-thin white membranes which are bitter to the tongue. The inner membranes and rind are not generally eaten due to high tannic acid content, but they are useful as a skin wash. Many people eat the fresh fruit by chewing on the seeds to release the juice from the sacs and then swallow seeds and all. The seeds are considered good roughage to help cleanse the body. In India, the seeds are dried and ground into a powder to be used in meat dishes. Others will chew the juice from the seeds and then spit out the seeds. One method to get just the juice is to vigorously roll the fruit on a hard surface to break the juice sacs. When the fruit is soft, puncture the end, insert a straw, and suck out the juice, squeezing as you go. Obviously, there is a fair amount of waste in this process. The option to eat or discard the seeds is yours.
Click here to find out how to eat them without all the mess!!!http://www.pomegranates.org/nomess.html

Pumpkin Carving
I apolgize for the blurry pics, but I can't see well at nite to focus. This is my creation. . .a siloutte of a cat and pumpkin.
Moyds creation
Another of Moyds...he used taxidermy items---Antelope eyes and a tongue.
Last night Moyd's brother and his 3 sons came over and we carved our pumpkins. I swear, I think Moyd was the most excited kid there when it came to carving. Will post pictures soon. Last year I didn't buy any pumpkins because we didn't have any kids at home...but silly me forgot about Moyd! He was disappointed that I hadn't bought any, so this year I bought 3.

Sew much fun...
I had so much fun making baby Delia a rag quilt, that I decided to try my hand at a larger one. This one is a queen size. I'm surprised at how fast it worked up, only took me 9 days from start to finish! But of course I kind of cheated. . .The fabric store has a die that cut and rags the squares, my hands would have died clipping the ends of 143 squares ;)

50 in 20 days ;)
Fifty is a pretty impressive number. I'm at my Peak. It's my time.
Turning 50 is now a rite of passage into a whole new life. Turning fifty means freedom, freedom to enjoy myself and not worry about having fun. It is a time of freedom knowing that I am all grown up. (lol) It's freedom of been there, done that. Freedom to laugh out loud, freedom to be outspoken and freedom to enjoy myself without worrying about what people think or what people will say.
Now is the time to take on a new (or even old) hobby, be more active, get a new hairstyle, re-connect with an old friend.
As I look forward to my next set of years, I will make a commitment to laugh more, play more and enjoy more. I've earned it. Let 50 represent all that I have dreamt to be and all that I have wished for. Turning 50 is a time to celebrate who I am and the fun that is yet to be. My best friend Debbie used to get mad at me because I was 10 days older than her. I got my Driver's License, turned 18 and 21, 10 days before. Now instead of being mad at me...SHE LAUGHS!!! because I am turning 50 before she does.
The Mayonnaise Jar
My friend, Linda, sent this to me recently.
The Mayonnaise Jar
When things in your life seem almost too much to handle, when 24 hours in a day are not enough, remember the mayonnaise jar and the 2 Cokes .
A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in front of him. When the class began, he wordlessly picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls. He then asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was.
The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled into the open areas between the golf balls. He then asked the students again if the jar was full. They agreed it was.
The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything else. He asked once more if the jar was full. The students responded with an unanimous 'yes.'The professor then produced two Cokes from under the table and poured the entire contents into the jar effectively filling the empty space between the sand. The students laughed.'Now,' said the professor as the laughter subsided, 'I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life. The golf balls are the important things---your family, your children, your health, your friends and your favorite passions---and if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full. The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, your house and your car.The sand is everything else---the small stuff. 'If you put the sand into the jar first,' he continued, 'there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls. The same goes for life. If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff you will never have room for the things that are important to you.'Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness. Spend time with your children. Spend time with your parents. Visit with grandparents. Take time to get medical checkups. Take your spouse out to dinner. Play another 18. There will always be time to clean the house and fix the disposal. Take care of the golf balls first---the things that really matter. Set your priorities. The rest is just sand.'One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the Coke represented. The professor smiled and said, 'I'm glad you asked.'The Coke just shows you that no matter how full your life may seem, there's always room for a couple of Cokes with a friend.'

Popping sound
The Gate (from the backyard)
We decided that the fawn was trying to jump the gate back into civilization, when it must have caught one of its front legs in between the slats. This shows the hair that it left.
This pic shows the scratches made while it was kicking. (Maybe it was one of Santa's Reindeer checking up on us!?!)
Last night around midnite Moyd heard a weird noise, we thought maybe ANOTHER firework store was up in flames again. He looked out the window and couldn't see sign of one, then he thought 'maybe someone is trying to break in'. He got dressed and went out on the back deck, looked around, came back in and said "there is a fawn in the backyard, looks like his head is stuck in the fence," so I had to DRAG my butt out of bed to go help him. Well it turns out it wasn't stuck but it was either kicking the house or the fence trying to get out. After a few attempts of trying to scare him, he finally did jump over the back fence and was on his way to the great wide open fields. He had kicked the gate so hard that he loosened the post that it is hooked to, so now we need to replace the post. Geez Mr. Deer, there is more vegetation to eat in the front as in the back!

Intarsia
Here's the Bobcat he made.
Intarsia is the fine art of cutting numerous pieces of different kinds of wood on a scrollsaw, and fitting them together to make a picture. Intarsia is sometimes referred to as wood art. You use the colour, texture and grain of the various types of wood to add excitement to your work. Sort of like a wood puzzle.
In its most sophisticated form each piece of wood is carved to an appropriate shape and thickness, based on what it is suppose to represent.
The finished piece can be stand alone artwork, ... added around a picture frame or mirror, or shrunk in size and applied as a decorative component to wooden clocks and boxes.
Moyd had been working on some wood projects, this is a racoon that he just completed.

Camping Trip
I found our camping trip pics on the same card that I had missplaced. Sometime back in August we went camping with Jeremiah and Jennie, Jeremiah was BEAR HUNTING. Marissa, Makinzy and Marick drove up on a Saturday and joined us for the day. We had a great time. However. . .this is the camping trip that I developed BRONCHITIS and I was off work for 3 days. I inhaled too much campfire smoke and it did me in, Moyd told me "NO MORE CAMPING FOR YOU" ;(
These are some wild raspberries that Jennie, Makinzy, Marick and I picked.
Lost But Now Found/So Sorry
I am getting so forgetful (could it be that I'm getting closer to being 50 this year) I had misplaced one of my digital camera cards and I had been looking in my picture file for Delia's blessing day thinking I had already downloaded the pictures, lo and behold I hadn't!

Test confirmed
Today I received a phone call from Dr. Southwick confirming that I do have Osteopenia. She wants to put me on FOSAMAX but now I need to get my blood work done so she can check my Vitamin D level. GGGRRRRRRR I don't want to be on any medication!!! So for now I will continue taking my calcium supplements and walking my 2.5 miles a day. Until next time.
I've learned . . .
I've learned....That the less time I have to work, the more things I get done.
I've learned....That the Lord didn't do it all in one day What makes me think I can? I've learned....That to ignore the facts does not change the facts.
I've learned...That under everyone's hard shell is someone who wants to be appreciated and loved.
I've learned...that it's those small daily happenings that make life so spectacular.
I've learned.... That money DOES NOT buy class!!
I've learned....That we should be glad God doesn't give us everything we ask for.
I've learned....That life is like a roll of toilet paper ... The closer it gets to the end, the faster it goes.

A.A.A.D.D.
Recently, I was diagnosed with A.A.A.D.D. - Age Activated Attention Deficit Disorder.
This is how it manifests: I decide to water my garden. As I turn on the hose in the driveway, I look over at my car and decide it needs washing. As I start toward the garage, I notice mail on the porch table that I brought up from the mail box earlier. I decide to go through the mail before I wash the car.I lay my car keys on the table, put the junk mail in the garbage can under the table, and notice that the can is full. So, I decide to put the bills back on the table and take out the garbage first. But then I think, since I'm going to be near the mailbox when I take out the garbage anyway, I may as well pay the bills first. I take my check book off the table, and see that there is only one check left. My extra checks are in my desk in the study, so I go inside the house to my desk where I find the can of Coke I'd been drinking. I'm going to look for my checks, but first I need to push the Coke aside so that I don't accidentally knock it over. The Coke is getting warm, and I decide to put it in the refrigerator to keep it cold. As I head toward the kitchen with the Coke, a vase of flowers on the counter catches my e ye--they need water. I put the Coke on the counter and discover my reading glasses that I've been searching for all morning. I decide I better put them back on my desk, but first I'm going to water the flowers. I set the glasses back down on the counter, fill a container with water and suddenly spot the TV remote. Someone left it on the kitchen table. I realize that tonight when we go to watch TV, I'll be looking for the remote, but I won't remember that it's on the kitchen table, so I decide to put it back in the den where it belongs, but first I'll water the flowers .I pour some water in the flowers, but quite a bit of it spills on the floor. So, I set the remote back on the table, get some towels and wipe up the spill. Then, I head down the hall trying to remember what I was planning to do.
At the end of the day: the car isn't washed, the bills aren't paid, there is a warm can of Coke sitting on the counter, the flowers don't have enough water, there is still only 1 check in my check book, I can't find the remote, I can't find my glasses and I don't remember what I did with the car keys. Then, when I try to figure out why nothing got done today, I'm really baffled because I know I was busy all damn day, and I'm really tired. I realize this is a serious problem, and I'll try to get some help for it, but first I'll check my e-mail...Do me a favor. Forward this message to everyone you know, because I don't remember who the hell I've sent it to.Don't laugh -- if this isn't you yet, your day is coming!!

Dr appt/future surgery
Today Moyd drove me to SLC for my Dr appt at the U of U. I went to see a Urology Specialist, looks like I will be having surgery sometime in November. The surgery date will be set in 2 weeks when I return for another Dr visit. I will be off work for 4 weeks, I really feel guilty for getting this done because we are so short handed at my place of employment. But I need to take care of myself also or my problem could turn into something more serious. Thank you Moyd for driving me. . .there is just too much traffic for me.
Oh Cassie!
Yesterday Cassie had 7 teeth pulled. . .4 Wisdom and 3 Molars that were in her cheek bone. Just remember. . .NO sucking on a straw and NO spitting. WE WISH YOU A SPEEDY RECOVERY! ( THE PATIENT REQUESTED THAT THE PHOTO BE REMOVED)

Happy Birthday Tommy
Today, in the year 1962, my little brother Thomas Arnold Spring was born . He lived only 12 hours, I was not quite 4 years old so I don't remember why or how he died. The only pic I have of him is when he was in his casket. However, I do remember attending the funeral. Tommy, I'm sure the reunion you had with Dad and Mom was a great one. . .I bet Dad has taken you fishing and Mom has cooked you Macaroni and Cheese! We love and miss you Thomas!!!

Test
Today I went to Salt Lake to have a Bone Density Test. I snook a look at the unoffical test results and it said that I have Osteopenia.
What is osteopenia?
Osteopenia refers to bone mineral density (BMD) that is lower than normal peak BMD but not low enough to be classified as osteoporosis. Bone mineral density is a measurement of the level of minerals in the bones, which indicates how dense and strong they are. If your BMD is low compared to normal peak BMD, you are said to have osteopenia. Having osteopenia means there is a greater risk that, as time passes, you may develop BMD that is very low compared to normal, known as osteoporosis.
What causes osteopenia?
Bones naturally become thinner as people grow older because, beginning in middle age, existing bone cells are reabsorbed by the body faster than new bone is made. As this occurs, the bones lose minerals, heaviness (mass), and structure, making them weaker and increasing their risk of breaking. All people begin losing bone mass after they reach peak BMD at about 30 years of age. The thicker your bones are at about age 30, the longer it takes to develop osteopenia or osteoporosis.
Some people who have osteopenia may not have bone loss; they may just naturally have a lower bone density. Osteopenia may also be the result of a wide variety of other conditions, disease processes, or treatments. Women are far more likely to develop osteopenia and osteoporosis than men. This is because women have a lower peak BMD and because the loss of bone mass speeds up as hormonal changes take place at the time of menopause. In both men and women, the following factors can all contribute to osteopenia:
*Eating disorders or metabolism problems that do not allow the body to take in and use enough vitamins and minerals
*Chemotherapy, or medications such as steroids used to treat a number of conditions, including asthma
*Exposure to radiation
*Having a family history of osteoporosis, being thin, being white or Asian, getting limited physical activity, smoking, regularly drinking cola drinks, and drinking excessive amounts of alcohol also increase the risk of osteopenia and, eventually, osteoporosis.

Like a kid at Christmas
Friday nite I was so excited, knowing that in the morning I was going hunting for my very first ANTELOPE! I couldn't fall asleep, just like a little kid at christmas. By the time I did fall asleep, it was time to WAKE UP and go HUNTING. We had been out about 45 min when Moyd spotted the ANTELOPE all by itself. So we walked down the hill, I sat down on the ground. . .aimed. . .pulled the trigger and I MISSED!!! It kinda ran a little ways then stopped and just waited. I moved to some sage-brush to where I could rest the gun on it and layed down. . .aimed. . .pulled trigger and HIT IT. . .I heard the THUMP and down it went. It was about a 150 yard shot. When we got over to it, we could see where the first bullet GRAZED the right shoulder, it took some hair off! I hit it in the left shoulder, but hey, at least I hit it.
I got ahold of my favorite TAXIDERMIST to see if he could squeeze me in and he had to think about it for a minute, but of course, he said yes. lol. I think I will have it mounted as a pedistal mount and put it where Moyds elk is hanging.
We are going to make jerky out of the meat and smoke it in our new smoker.
